The Problem with “Marry the House, Date the Rate”

“Marry the House, Date the Rate” is a common hook for Realtors.

I just don’t like it.

The suggestion here is that if you buy a home now, you can refinance and reduce the rate in a couple years.

This isn’t an inherently bad idea, but it comes with a few assumptions that aren’t disclosed, and that’s what I dislike.
